The symbol is shaped as a wave, drawing from the tides of the Somali coastline and the fluid rhythms of water that have long defined Somali life, history, and imagination. At the same time, it forms the letter “S”, grounding it in the identity of the Somali Museum UK. Its flowing form reflects the movement of currents across the Indian Ocean and the Horn of Africa, where water has always been both pathway and presence. It carries a sense of continuity and exchange — of poetry, trade, memory, and joy moving across oceans and generations. The wave brings these ideas into a single, continuous mark, expressing the connection between the homeland and the diaspora, and pointing toward shared, evolving futures.

The icon set reflects the museum's four core values, drawing inspiration from the expressive movements of native dance, the artistry of traditional Somali earthenware, the woven forms of traditional Somali homes crafted by women, and the community tradition of storytelling that keeps their history alive.
